UCR 2026

Never filed your 2026 UCR? It's still open.

Almost every UCR page on the internet moved to 2027 the moment the new fees were approved. But 2026 registration is still open and still applies — it runs through December 31, 2026. If you operate interstate and never registered for 2026, you are unregistered for this year right now, and it is still fixable.

The short answer

Yes, you can still file 2026. Go to UCR.gov, enter your USDOT, and the portal shows a registration-history table with a row per year. If 2026 reads Unregistered, there is a REGISTER NOW button on that row. 2026 and 2027 are separate years with separate fees — paying one does not cover the other.

The 2026 fees

These are the 2026 amounts, which are not the 2027 amounts. Your bracket comes from your power-unit count — trucks and tractors that move under their own power. Trailers never count.

Power units2026 fee2027 fee
0–2$46$55
3–5$138$167
6–20$276$333
21–100$963$1,163
101–1,000$4,592$5,548
1,001+$44,836$54,165

FMCSA approved an increase averaging roughly 20% for the 2027 registration year, effective October 1, 2026.

How to check whether you actually filed

A lot of carriers are not sure. Either a filing service handled it and never confirmed, or it got lost in a busy December. Two ways to find out for certain, both free:

  1. 1Open UCR.gov and enter your USDOT number. After the confirmation step, the dashboard lists every registration year with its status. 2026 will read Registered or Unregistered — there is no ambiguity.
  2. 2Or check your official status directly at ucr.gov/enforcement/ followed by your USDOT number. It shows your registration status per year straight from the government record.

If you owe both 2026 and 2027

From October 1, 2026 both years are available in the same portal, on the same dashboard, as two separate rows. You file them one at a time and pay each fee separately. It is worth doing both in one sitting while your details are in front of you — the fleet count, base state and company information are the same for both.

Not sure where you stand?

Enter your USDOT and we'll pull your carrier record, work out your exact bracket, and walk you through the portal one screen at a time — for whichever years you still owe. Free to start, and you file it yourself on UCR.gov.

Questions carriers actually ask

Is UCR 2026 still required?

Yes. The 2026 registration year runs through December 31, 2026, and enforcement for 2026 has been active since January 1, 2026. If you operate interstate and never registered for 2026, you are currently unregistered for that year.

Can I still file my 2026 UCR?

Yes. UCR.gov still accepts 2026 registrations. When you enter your USDOT, the portal shows a registration-history table with a row for each year and its status — if 2026 says Unregistered, there is a REGISTER NOW button on that row.

How do I check whether I filed UCR for 2026?

Enter your USDOT number on UCR.gov. The registration-history dashboard lists every year with its status, so you can see at a glance whether 2026 shows Registered or Unregistered. You can also check your status at ucr.gov/enforcement/ followed by your USDOT number.

Do I have to file 2026 and 2027 separately?

Yes. They are two separate registration years with two separate fees. 2027 registration opens October 1, 2026, so from that date you can file both — but paying for 2027 does not cover a 2026 gap.

Are the 2026 and 2027 UCR fees the same?

No. FMCSA approved an increase averaging about 20% for 2027. The 0–2 power-unit bracket is $46 for 2026 and $55 for 2027; the top bracket goes from $44,836 to $54,165.

What happens if I never file 2026 at all?

The registration year simply closes unregistered on December 31, 2026, and that gap stays visible on your UCR record. Participating states enforce UCR at roadside during the year it applies to.
