UCR is an annual renewal

The 2027 registration window opens October 1, 2026 and participating states begin enforcing the 2027 year on January 1, 2027. A registration completed inside that window simply carries you across the date change with no gap; one completed later leaves a stretch where your current-year registration isn't on file. There's nothing dramatic about the mechanics — it's just that the calendar doesn't wait, and October is a much calmer month to do this in than late December.
